A Pathology Lab with an expertise in nautical tests, the main design challenge is that function is not only important, it is non-negotiable. There is a clear flow chart, processes that are linked to one another, and certain areas which need to allow flexibility.

The smoother this process, the better for patients, and even better for the personnel. Everything else recedes into the background.

But even within these tight constraints of function-per-square-foot, segregating the spaces while still offering a sense of openness and order, is essential.
