Dhobitalao Public Library

Marine Lines, Mumbai (in progress)

An exercise in space exploration, the main challenge (and beauty) in renovating this 125 year old library was to learn its architectural heritage, understand the current requirements, and design a new path forward. One small step at a time.

This 10,000 sft heritage site is an excellent example of how an architectural typology can be reinterpreted to serve a different set of needs based on the evolving times.

Much of the impact of this design — an ongoing process — is achieved through carving out space and incorporating the latest technologies.
